The Most Severe Injury ... Ever! :(

Our daughter gave us a fright earlier this week. :(

She tried to climb on one of her chairs when suddenly, WHAM! She fell face down and the chair crushed her thumb!

I quickly jumped off my sofa to find her crying on the floor, not getting up and blood gushed out of her thumb. Blood drops everywhere. I panicked and nearly cried.

I immediately lifted her off the floor, of course, I nagged at her with "That's why Ummi and Daddy always tell you to not climb on chairs / tables / etc". Seriously, I just couldn't help it.

I ran to the kitchen sink and placed her thumb under the running water. Blood continued to flow and after a minute or so, it stopped temporarily.

By the time I grabbed a tissue paper and we walked back to the sofa, blood continued to flow out, like so:

She didn't stop crying from the moment she fell onto the floor.

I laid her on the sofa and tried to calm her down.

I wrapped the tissue paper around her thumb, hoping to stop the bleeding.

Not long after, she fell asleep, probably due to shock or that she was exhausted from all the crying.

The bleeding worried me, a lot! When I looked at the condition of her thumb, I just couldn't stop worrying.

I took out two ice cubes from the freezer and gently dabbed an ice on her thumb.

She instantly woke up, telling me "It hurts, Ummi".

Oh dear, that broke my heart to like a gazillion pieces!

I told her "I know baby, but see, Ummi wants to make you feel better, ok?"

She slowly replied with "Ok Ummi"

As the ice melted, I soaked her thumb in the hopes of stopping the bleeding as well as to reduce the swelling and any form of throbbing pain she might have felt.

I continued with this ice treatment for every consecutive hour or so, in between her taking short naps.

Knowing our little girl, it was rare to see her lying down on the sofa for the entire afternoon.

Her thumb looked like this later in the evening:

So I felt slightly relieved when I saw it got better, not much blood but her thumb was still bleeding once in awhile.

When hubby came home from work, she couldn't even muster enough strength to run to the door and greet him like she normally does.

Hubby sat next to her to check up on her as I got dinner ready so that we could visit the doctor to see how severe it was.

As we consulted the doctor, he asked her to move her thumb, which she did so he said that there were no fractures.

He saw that there was a cut which allowed the blood to come out so it didn't require him to make any holes whatsoever on her thumb to avoid any blood clots.

All he said was that her thumb just required some cleaning and that it was all going to be fine.

We were ushered into another room where the nurse attended to her. Cleaned her wound and applied some form of yellowish liquid before neatly wrapping it.

We were given an ointment, antibiotic and a pain killer.

We were so blessed that she could sleep well that night and had not developed any fever.

The next day, as I unwrapped her bandage to give her a shower, her thumb looked like this:

The best part?

After breakfast, she was back to her normal self, playing / running / swimming.

She told me "I feel much better, Ummi!" :)

Yeah, she's telling me that so that she could play.

The only times she would say it hurts was when I tried applying medication on her thumb or wrapped her finger with a plaster before she went swimming.

So much drama!
