Co-sleeping

Our toddler is 3-years of age and she still sleeps with us.

Her bed is placed next to ours, well, more of our mattress as we don't have a bed. This allows for us to sleep right next to her and allows those bf sessions in the wee hours of the morning where she'll normally help herself.

Putting her to sleep is easy too. I would bf her and she'll start to doze off or she'll sleep on her own when she's too exhausted from the day's activities.

Whenever she wants to fall asleep, she would either hug my arm or keep poking my armpit (yes, armpit!!!). Her leg would normally find its way and land on my leg or tummy.

I know of parents who have set a bedtime routine for their child before settling down to sleep ie drink warm milk, have a warm bath, brush their teeth, read a story book then tuck the child in. What is even more amazing is that the child sleeps in a separate room and the parents would switch on a night light so that the room is not too dark. :)

I admit, I can't let her go just yet. You know, the thought of her sleeping in another room, all alone ... I just can't.

I don't think we would be able to send her away to her own room anytime soon.

It just feels more secure and safe to have her around in our room. Instances where she'd suddenly wake up from a nightmare and starts crying, I can immediately console her back to sleep.

Just last night, she suddenly woke up around 1am, calling out for "Daddy" and started to cry. She was looking at the shadow of our curtains on the ceiling.

Honestly, she looked quite scared and kept staring at the ceiling.

I recited some prayers in her ear, hugged her tight, could feel her fast heartbeat and stayed with her for an hour until she finally fell asleep.

I don't know, it just feels better to have her nearby. It feels better to have her still bf even though she's already 3 yo++ (ok, though sometimes it is a bit tiring coz I have to lay down on one side during feeding sessions and my back would hurt like crazy when I wake up in the morning).

If anyone else questions why I'm not letting her sleep in her own room, probably I'll respond with "Why not?"

Perpustakaan / Library @ TTDI

We decided to check out our local library since the little one is now asking me to read the same book to her like 10 times!

All's good and I'm happy that she loves to read but I must admit, sometimes I jump the lines / sentences / pages.

Reading the same thing over and over again reminds me of the time back in school when I had to study for an exam.

Off we went to the library using Waze as I wasn't familiar with the area.

Guess what? WAZE brilliantly showed me the way until I had to turn into a back alley, behind someone's home (which was facing the library) and I couldn't find any entrance into the compound!

I told my daughter "Oh no, Ummi can't find a way in, no parking."

She responded with "Find another way, Ummi, that way!"

Either way she pointed, she won't know where it would lead us but at least she's telling me that we should find another way hahahaha

When I managed to make a huge turn, going back out on the road and finding the entrance, I managed to see the sign "Perpustakaan".

I parked the car and we walked towards the building which was facing the tennis court. There was another building where I had parked the car but it was written as "Dewan" so I knew I shouldn't be going in there to see if there was a library.

We stepped into the kids' library and took off our shoes before entering.

The place was huge with tables and chairs neatly arranged, aisles of books organized at the other end of the library whereas rows and rows of chairs organized near the window for activities ie story telling session.

The room which I was more interested in (and my toddler too) was the "Bookstart" room for toddlers aged 4 yo and below.

Upon entering the room, you would feel like it was a kindergarten with soft toys stacked in the middle and some tables and chairs. Interesting :)

Some pictures below:

We spent most of our time here as she managed to find Snoopy in the room, so we played pretend play with Snoopy and Hello Kitty (which she brought) whilst we read tons of interesting books from the room.

Membership is allowed for kids aged from 4 yo for RM 6 whereas for adults, RM 16.

I know for sure that we'd be heading back here again! I just LOVE going to the library.

One thing our toddler picked up was "SSsshh, quiet, it's the library." :D :D :D And she'll display a serious face whilst saying it.

Healthy Poop!!!

I know for sure that those reading this entry are moms or dads or guardians who are concerned with their kids' pooping habits.

I, for one, was under the impression that checking the poop color and smell was a thing of the past. You know, when you Google "stool chart" as the baby's poop turns a certain color and you become worried?

My toddler is 3-yo this year and for the past couple of weeks, her passing motion experience had become an unpleasant one for her ... and mine too as it saddens me to see her in pain :( :( :(

I feel like a failed mom, seriously!

So when I decided to put my foot down and ensure that she eats her vegetables, she has been consuming carrots, corn, green peas, broccoli and asparagus for the entire week!

The results?

Healthy poop ... happy toddler!

I wouldn't be able to tell if she was passing motion as she'd do it secretly whilst she was playing.

All of a sudden, she walked to the fridge and turned herself around, checking out her behind in the reflection!

I asked her what she was doing.

"My bum-bum is full, Ummi!"

Aaahh, that means that she passed motion and feels that it is going to explode from her diapers!

I'm glad, really glad that she wasn't suffering anymore and we're working on having her consume her vegetables every single day.

Next up, fruits! :)

Faith in Humanity, Restored!

Toddler and I headed to the post office this morning.

Unfortunately, the parking was full so we had no choice but to park the car outside of the vicinity which was by the roadside.

To get back into the post office area, we needed to cross a drain and squeeze ourselves in between a lamp post and a fence.

Here I was, carrying TWO boxes in one hand, supported by my hip (yes, it was slightly heavy) and on the other hand, I grabbed hold of my toddler tightly so that she does not fall into the drain.

That was the ONLY way in.

The only other entrance was for cars to go down to the basement parking and not much room for pedestrians. It was more dangerous than the drain-lamp post-fence option as the cars would normally be driven at top speed. :(

Upon reaching the part where we had to cross the drain, my mind was racing. The other side of the drain was not levelled and it was slightly higher than the grounds on our end.

Do I leave the parcel on one side and carry my toddler first?

But that means I risk my toddler if I were to leave her to retrieve the parcel.

Or do I carry the parcel first then only my toddler?

Either way, I'm risking my toddler.

I was near to tears, really, when I was juggling both boxes, one leg on one side and the other already trying to climb the other side whilst I continuously told my toddler "Wait for Ummi ok, don't move dear, wait for Ummi, it's dangerous."

The only reason why I didn't suddenly burst into tears was that an elderly man, nearing his 60s, suddenly stopped in front of me and picked up my parcels.

He ushered me to the post office and showed me that he would help carry the boxes.

I gladly followed him into the post office where he had also pressed the machine for the ticket.

I was speechless but not speechless enough as I thanked him a few times.

He just smiled and nodded and uttered "You're welcome".

Once we had completed our Poslaju arrangements, I started to walk out of the post office until I spotted the kind man near the door.

I walked up to him again and said "Thank you soooo much"

He smiled and acknowledged again.

Such a kind heart and I pray that God will bless this man with all the good things in life and protect him, here and in the afterlife as well. :)

Lego Store @ The Curve, Damansara

Where would one be able to find an abundance of LEGO collection in Damansara Utama?

There's one located on the same floor as Mothercare at The Curve Shopping Mall ! :D

At the time of us stepping into this huge Lego concept store, there was only us and the staff.

In the centre of the shop, they've allocated a space for young kids to play whilst mom or dad or guardian checks out the massive collection available.

Once we settled down at this table, the crowd started to build up. We're talking about college students, teenagers and working adults walking into the shop, spending time at each section to check out the items on display.

This was the first time ever that I had actually walked into a big shop containing nothing but Lego all around!

Don't believe me? Check out the pictures below!!!

Of course, as a mom, I'm only too happy that our toddler could spend close to an hour just focusing on playing with the Lego and making new friends. :)

Hubby advised me that this would be an excellent blog entry as there are Lego enthusiasts who would LOVE to patronize this store.

So here I am typing this out and pictures were of course captured by dear hubby.

Highly recommended place to check out, guys! :)

As for those who want their toddlers to just chill with Lego, this is THE place to go to. :D

Toddler in the Kitchen

I admit, when my toddler refused to eat her vegetables (countless attempts, I tell you) I gave up trying to feed her.

When I see other toddlers aged 3 eating vegetables on their own, I secretly wished my toddler would do the same.

Only recently when she had trouble passing motion with her face turning red as she tries hard to pass motion and at times end up crying, I knew at that moment I had to do something. Owh, I did feel like crying whenever she had to go through one of her episodes, poor baby girl!

Asking her to gulp down a few bottles of fluid is no longer sufficient.

What made matters worse was that in the past 2 weeks as we were bogged down with moving house and unpacking, I often forgot to remind her to drink her water.

She's more interested to play or help around the house.

Determined I was to get her to eat her vegetables, my toddler and I went to the supermarket earlier in the week.

I didn't splurge on the greens as yet and started off with broccoli, mixed vegetables (green peas + carrots + corn) in addition to buying salmon which was RM 12 for one piece.

We started off to prepare her meals together in the kitchen.

I gave her the responsibility to chop her broccoli or cook her vegetables / pasta and heat up the bolognese sauce (bought in a jar). Everything was done by her AND under close supervision, of course.

This was her first meal, fully loaded with salmon, mixed vege and broccoli. I guess I was too ambitious, just look at how green the broccoli is and it didn't occur to me that she wouldn't like it.

On a more positive note, she was happy consuming her carrots, corn and green peas. GREEN PEAS! Oh wow, I was extremely impressed and shared it with hubby and the family! Woo hoo!

As the previous attempt to introduce broccoli didn't end well as the broccoli ended up in the dustbin, I incorporated broccoli in the bolognese sauce below:

Any hints or traces of broccoli wasn't visible, not to her, at least.

The sauce was spread onto pita bread, topped with mozzarella cheese which she gladly helped prepare.

We slightly grilled the pita bread until the cheese melted slightly and tadaaa pita pizza was ready within 3 minutes or so.

The verdict?

She LOVED it! :D

Towards the end of the week, all we did was mix everything together and the results as below:

I'm a happy mom!

I'm super happy that she ate her vegetables on a DAILY basis and whenever she passes motion now, it no longer looks excruciatingly painful for her!

Hubby and I discovered that our toddler needed to be involved in cooking or preparing the meals so she would actually eat the food prepared, especially vegetables!

A Pie Thing @ Damansara Uptown

Honestly, you wouldn't miss this BRIGHTLY LIT sign from the highway.

I think it's the ONLY establishment which is visible from the road that it just beckons you to drop by :) Which we gladly did!

It was a Friday evening when we paid a visit to A Pie Thing and as you can see, there was ample parking.

Come on in! :)

As you step into the cafe, you'll immediately see the menu boards for you to make your selection, which is easy peasy until ...

... You see the selection of pies available and you're in for a trouble. Yes, sooooo many to choose from! Aih.

I just LOVE pies and they have a fair share or savoury pies along with dessert / sweet pies.

I don't believe I've ever been to a place which sells decent and delicious pies so A Pie Thing is THE place to go. *Feeling happy! :D :D :D

#Godmusthaveansweredmyprayers

For the sweet-tooth, here are some pictures to entice you ;) Yes, along with the price tag so it'll be easy for you to decide now when you visit the place later.

You're welcome.

Inserting a picture of the Barbican which is available here too.

Their savoury pies below:

Their pies are certified HALAL so go ahead, make your pick and have a peace of mind when you're enjoying your pie :)

Ok, I think I've jumped the gun already, too excited to share the pics with you!

So, check out the pies and place your order at their counter when you've decided what to order.

You can choose the set which comes with mashed potato and other toppings, etc.

Collect your pies at the pick-up counter or if they said that they'll send it over to you, you can immediately choose where to sit.

Hubby says this tea is highly sought after
Should the dessert / sweet pies not meet your satisfaction, they have a separate display counter for CHOCOLATES!

We love the simplicity of the interior and the casual setting.

What we ordered:
See the attempt to replicate the logo? Hehehehe

Carefully thought packaging, picture denotes the pie's filling. Creative eh?

S'mores ... some may find it not up to their expectation particularly if you know how to make your own S'mores.

The pies are extremely filling and I thoroughly enjoyed my pies. I had a tough time finishing off my S'mores after enjoying the entire portion of my savoury pie, Chicken & Mushroom.

Be warned, if you wish to enjoy both the savoury and dessert / sweet pies, it is best that you share the pies. Else, you'll end up with a fully bloated tummy, like me, thereafter.

THE MASHACRE > Pie + Mashed Potato + Gravy + Peas

I was also happy with the servers as they're very friendly and constantly smiling. Good customer service indeed!

A Pie Thing is here to stay, where you can get your dose of savoury pies or dessert / sweet pies from one establishment. :)

You can obtain more details from their Facebook page.
