iPad Be Gone!

At one point of time in my lil' tot's life, she used to be glued to the iPad.

She'd go everywhere with it and even upon waking up from her slumber in the morning, she'll call out for the iPad.

She'd have meals in front of the iPad, oblivious to her surroundings and clearly ignoring Daddy and Ummi who were seated next to her.

We installed games in her iPad, particularly the educational ones. She'll be slouched on the couch playing her favourite games.

She was even browsing YouTube videos in search for her cartoons.

What made it worse was when she started bringing the iPad into the room at night!

She'd watch her cartoon series on the iPad until she fell asleep on her own.

I gave her time, a couple of days, to see if she'd stop with the iPad.

Of course, it didn't.

So I told hubby that we needed to do something.

One day, we hid the iPad in our wardrobe and when she was looking for it, we would tell her "The iPad ran out of battery. No battery."

She accepted our explanation and we found her other activities to do.

Unfortunately, one day when I was trying to get the iPad out of the wardrobe so that hubby could sell it off, she walked in on me, with one hand holding the iPad as I was about to turn around.

She started to ask for the iPad and cried when I refused to hand it over.

I told her "No battery" and she even said something along the lines of "Charge, Ummi. Have to charge."

Uh-oh ... so both hubby and I calmed her down and managed to distract her.

We had tons of activities lined up for her so that we could do things together.

Reading, painting, colouring, crafting (which is more of hubby's department), swimming, cycling, baking, cooking, doing house chores, playing outdoors, visits to the library, to name a few. Most importantly, constantly communicating with her.

We would watch the TV as a family or she would play online games on the PC but those things don't take priority and it is more of an unwinding activity after a hectic day.

She's forgotten about the iPad completely and we're glad that she no longer looks for it.

Unless, of course, when we go on playdates and the other kid has his / her iPad, she'll want it too!
