Pop Shop by Jaya One

We went to check out The School by Jaya One last weekend.

We had wanted to visit Pop Shop by Jaya One, "the first retail hotel in Malaysia exclusively catered for creative visionaries/entrepreneurs."

Imagine weekend bazaars which you normally frequent that houses different vendors at any one time, come rain or shine. 

Pop Shop has the same concept, but much more! It's air-conditioned (yippee!), they have comfortable fitting rooms and you can browse through the stuff at your own leisure without anyone following you around.

Pop Shop's retail assistants are available on site should you have any enquiries.

Of course, the most important place would be bathrooms, which are located just next to the outlet.

Anyway, we made our way to Petaling Jaya. 

As we're not familiar with the location of Jaya One, we used our trusty GPS to show us the way.

Take the exit on the left

If you see this signage, turn left. You're on the right track!

Once we turned left as per the picture above, we continued to drive along the road until we reached a building (on our left) where Cold Storage Supermarket signage can be seen visibly from the road, as well as other retail outlets.

We weren't sure if it was the correct building, so we took the turn into the building anyway. 

We went into the basement parking and was a bit confused at first with the arrangement.

You'll seem to be driving haphazardly at first and not sure WHERE exactly is the place. 

So we searched for a signage to go to P3 instead.

The good thing about Jaya One is that the signage posts are just brilliant to show you the way. 

They'll show you where to go, they'll have designated parking spaces for the disabled, for hybrid cars and also for families.

We simply looked for "THE SCHOOL" and parked here.

It was great to see that Jaya One had taken the time to note down the simple details such as signage posts and directions, something which is often overlooked by most car park establishments in Malaysia.

So we took the escalator and headed up to P2.

Currently, the entire P1 area in Pop is taken up by one vendor selling toys.

It's definitely worth checking out the items here as the price is quite affordable, as if you're purchasing from a warehouse.

Your kids could try them out too and the compound is really spacious for them to drive around / cycle around / play with remote-controlled cars, etc.

The super cool thing about Pop Shop by Jaya One is that the vendors are able to express their creativity through designing their own shop lots.

You'll find so many different designs / set-ups / deco that you just can't resist taking pictures of each lot.

Delicious @ St. Mary's Place

I had a tough time searching on the Internet to find details on how to get to Delicious, St. Mary's Place.

Since I've already gone there and come back safely :D ... I'd like to help you peeps out there who is perhaps in the same predicament as I was. 

I can assure you that other blogs have written food reviews on Delicious @ St. Mary's Place brilliantly so I'll save you the time from reading any further if you're specifically looking for any food reviews. ;)

Delicious @ St. Mary's Place is right behind The Weld shopping mall. 

Other cafes which are on the same row are Black Market and San Francisco Coffee. 

GETTING THERE

I'm totally clueless when I need to find my way around KL on my own, despite having lived in KL for as long as I can remember.

The easiest would be to find The Weld. 

Once you have reached The Weld and you're driving in front of it (The Weld is on your left), drive further up until you see a bar called Drink University on your left.

IMMEDIATELY turn left here ... then take the first junction on your left.

This means that you'll be on Jalan Tengah (phew!)

You might be wondering if you're on the correct road as there'll be construction sites on both sides of the road. 

Fret not, drive slightly further up and you'll see the E&O Residences entrance on your right. 

You'll also be able to see Black Market thereafter, followed by the rest of the cafes ... so you're on the right path! :D

On weekends, you are able to park right in front of the cafes without getting summoned ... alternatively, you may opt to park at their basement parking for RM 5 per entry. 

All you need to do is drive past Delicious and take the first junction on your right to enter the parking lot.

It's a different story on weekdays as they'll be going on a rampage in issuing tickets as people tend to double park, the roads will become narrow AND you'll risk getting your car scratched ... or worse, bumped into by vans / lorries / etc going in and out of the construction site!

Parking rate on weekdays: 

1st hour - RM 4

Every subsequent hour - RM 3

ANYWAY ... 

My girlfriends and I were there to throw a bridal shower for our bestie who's getting married in a couple of weeks time! (Soooooooo excited for her!)

We had initially wanted to book Delicious @ Dua, however, knew for sure that the place would be packed on a weekend. 

St. Mary's Place is the PERFECT place as the ladies could go bonkers / loud / crazy and not really disturb other patrons ... (the Delicious crew were super wonderful / patient / accommodating with us!!!) 

We secured a spot at one corner ... FAR FAR away from other tables and the entrance ... quite hidden ... which was SUPER PERFECT!

The only thing was the air-conditioning ... so here we are, excited and giggling like little girls and sometimes laughing our heads off ... it was SUPER WARM!

We asked one of the crew members if the a/c was switched on ... she said it was full blast! 

Hence, we all decided to ask for ice water despite all of us ordering warm water earlier.

We were there from 3pm until 7pm ... what with the games, gift exchange and pic-taking, with props!

For the Muslims, surau is available within the same building too. 

The male surau is on the Ground floor whereas for the female, it would be on the First floor and it is nearby the washroom too. 

It would be best for the ladies to have someone accompany them to the surau as there are no security guards or anyone for that matter on the First floor.

Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside Hotel

I recently attended a 2-day conference in Putrajaya over the weekend and dear hubby booked us in Pullman Putrajaya Hotel for the weekend.

It is the nearest hotel to PICC (Putrajaya International Convention Centre) and I could come back to the hotel during the 1-hour lunch break.

The check-in was delayed (around 5pm) as the occupancy was at 100%, adding to the fact that the hotel was hosting a wedding and a conference at the same time as well as the conference I attended in PICC. 

Due to the delay, front desk provided us with free drinks at their lounge.

I couldn't stay long with hubby due to the conference so l returned to PICC whilst hubby and toddler planned on what to do prior to checking in. 

Luckily, we were able to leave our luggage at the front desk.

Hubby fetched me from the conference later that evening.

One thing you'll get confused at is the basement parking ... they have several wings which are named after the theme of the hotel rooms. 

Jasmine (Indian architecture), Rafflesia (Borneo), Bunga Tanjung (traditional Malay architecture) and Lotus (Chinese architecture).

You may ask the hotel staff where you need to park to gain access to their reception area for check-in purposes.

However, since we knew which room we were checked-into, hubby made his way to the Rafflesia wing where we took the elevator straight to our floor.

The one thing I noticed was that the hotel is poorly maintained.

Our bathroom door had holes in them ... not fixed ... it was quite obvious so am not sure why housekeeping didn't notice this?

The flooring in the room, felt as if it had never been swept.

The carpet looks worn and doesn't seem to have been vacuumed, let alone washed.

The bathroom also seemed like it had not been cleaned properly.

The elevator we used from the basement to gain access to our room was poorly maintained too ... the carpeting was torn, the walls had dents.

The basement parking had cobwebs on the ceiling and there were spots where water seems to leak from the piping system.

Paint had come off from the pillars and wall.

It is such a shame that such magnificent infrastructure which boasts a luxurious feel is poorly maintained yet still manages to charge RM300+ a night and people are still flocking over.

Pullman is surviving ... owing to the close proximity to PICC.
